- A soft trekking activity in Florence
- Amazing natural landscapes
- The beauty of Boboli and Bardini gardens
- A different way to discover the city
Meeting with a private licensed tour or hiking guide in Florence, for a pleasant soft trekking activity, not an easy walk but at a brisk pace to enjoy Florence and its outskirts, through the so-called “vagabonding”. From Ponte Vecchio, you will reach Oltrarno, on the opposite riverbank to reach the most important city green area: Boboli gardens, which extend from the hill behind Pitti Palace, belonged first to the Medici and then to the Lorraine families. You will rise along the Amphitheatre, admiring lovely meadows, avenues, small groves and beautiful panoramic views dotted with fountains, statues and grottoes.
After you have reached its highest part, you will stop to appreciate Fortezza Belvedere, a fortification built to protect the centre of government in Florence and the Medici family if the city had been under attack, used by Galileo Galilei for his astronomical observations, thanks to its strategic position.
Then you will enter the nearby Bardini garden, walking along the baroque flight of steps and the wisteria tunnel, which both lead to the Kaffeehaus. Your “detox” speed walk will end in Piazzale Michelangelo named by the remarkable Loggia in perfect neoclassical style, with the bronze statue of David by Michelangelo, surrounded by four allegories: night, day, twilight and dawn. From here, you cannot miss to take a photo of a postcard-like Florence, with its landmarks: the Dome by Brunelleschi, Giotto Tower, the Civic Tower, the Arno River and its bridges.
Comfortable shoes and a bottle of water are suggested.
